Seminar Description

With Malta’s updated National Risk Assessment (NRA) expected in 2027, subject persons will be required to evaluate the revised national money laundering and terrorist financing risk landscape and consider its impact on their own Business Risk Assessment (BRA) and AML/CFT framework. Understanding the findings of the NRA is only the first step—organisations must be able to demonstrate how those findings have been assessed, documented and translated into proportionate business-specific controls.

This practical CPD session provides participants with a structured approach to interpreting the NRA and embedding its findings into a robust, evidence-based Business Risk Assessment. The course will explore how national risk factors should be reflected within an organisation’s risk assessment methodology, customer and product risk assessments, geographic exposure, internal controls, and governance arrangements.

Participants will also examine the practical implications of the updated NRA, discuss the steps organisations should take to review and enhance their existing BRA, and identify common weaknesses observed during regulatory examinations relating to risk assessment methodologies and governance.
